Good morning dear and compassionate friends!
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is:
What are you doing for others?”
-The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
“State of the Union” – I woke up with these words swimming in my mind. Pondering a civil war where one side wanted to continue to enslave Negroes and their children and the other side wanted to set Negroes and their children free. That war may appear to be over but racism, America’s original sin, continues with us.
Note the Soul Nugget phrase: “We are all sparks of the Divine flame.“
Yesterday, was a holiday for the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a drum major for justice, a new Moses setting people free, a Christ figure. Yet some states celebrated Robert E. Lee day in lieu of MLK Day.
Can you imagine what history would be like if the south had won the war and our whole nation would continue the enslavement of other human beings and their children just because of their color?
Dr. King’s statement is powerful – “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” I feel sorry for folks who answered that I fought to keep black people and their children in slavery. Or in today’s world, folks who say that I am trying to cut back on the voting rights of the black peop,e. Or those who say that they want the White House to be “white” again.
I believe in a Cosmic Christ, larger than just Christianity, and my reading of Galatians 3:28 is something like this:
“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slavery nor free,
there is neither male nor female, there is neither gay nor straight,
there is neither black or white, nor red, nor yellow, nor brown,
for you all one in the mystery of God.”
Please listen below by Pete Seeger – which is both a hymn and a prayer.
“If we say we love God, but hate any of our brothers or sisters in his family, we are liars. If we don’t love someone we have seen, how can we love God?” – 1 John 4:20
Peace, justice and equality for all – not just for some.
We are all sparks of the Divine flame
